About Villigróður

The idea for Villigróður was born while Tarika, our founder, was writing her Master’s thesis in Environmental Science at the University of Iceland. Her research explored how neglected and underutilized plants—often overlooked by industrial agriculture—could reduce food insecurity in Brazil. She saw firsthand how these resilient, nutrient-rich species could transform broken food systems, empower smallholder farmers, and revive biodiversity.

But the problem wasn’t just agronomic—it was systemic. These powerful plants couldn’t reach consumers due to broken supply chains, lack of market access, and disconnection between farmers and buyers. That realization sparked a bigger vision: what if we could build a supply chain that works for nature, farmers, and eaters alike?

Villigróður is the result of that vision. It’s not just a business—it’s a movement to decentralize food production, empower biodiversity, and reconnect people to what they eat. Our goal is to build a future where food is local, diverse, and deeply meaningful—starting with a single seed.

Our Mission

At Villigróður, our mission is to rewild the food system—one connection at a time.

We bridge the gap between farmers, chefs, and conscious consumers by championing innovation rooted in biodiversity. Through data, storytelling, and deep respect for local ecosystems, we make it possible to grow and share wild and underutilized plants in ways that honor both tradition and the future.

We believe that food should regenerate the land, support small-scale farmers, and nourish communities—while delighting the senses and restoring our bond with nature.

Our Locations

Villigróður is rooted in global collaboration—with local focus.

Our journey begins in Campinas, Brazil, where our Minimum Viable Product (MVP) is connecting small farmers, chefs, and conscious businesses through an intelligent supply chain of unconventional edible plants.

From this vibrant hub of innovation, we’re laying the groundwork to expand across Italy and Iceland, nurturing biodiversity and transforming food systems one region at a time.
